Speaker Settings question.

I have sound blaster Audigy2 and 5.1 creative speaker system. Everytime i set Speaker Settings in Control Pannel/Sound And Audio Device to have 5.1 system settings after some time it defaults it back to Quadraphonic Speakers. I have the unofficial sound drivers that creative prodived thru Toms Hardware, could that be the reason? Anyone else have the same problem?
and im on windows XP pro.
