My Maxtor 160 is making strange clunking sounds. I am thinking about buying two of the new 36 gig raptors and putting them in Raid 0. Yes I know you're saying that's not enough storage but everything I have on my current computer only adds up to 17 GBs. My motherboard (Asus A7V333) has raid capability but I'm thinking some SATA cards have this built in but I'm not sure.

I'm looking for a suggestion on a SATA card. I would prefer to get a good one rather than a bottom of the line, no name junker. Any suggestions?

Also do I want the NCQ or non NCQ drives?

Thanks in advance :)

well here are some options. I work @ IBM and deal with our cards and you could always get one of ours (retail is anywhere from 200-3000 bucks :)

I guess it kinda depends on what kind of raid array you want to use and how fast you want it to write( you said 0 but ill give you a couple of options.....i like 5 but that is just me)

Bottom of the line but still works for what your doing

Little better with 4 sata connections

Faster with less sata ports

Personally i would go with what your needs will dictate. hope this helps

Jeepers!

Thanks for the input. It looks like whatever I get will have to make due with the PCI interface I have. Eventually I'll have to upgrade my motherboard and CPU but can still get a lot of mileage out of my current setup. When the Athlon dual core 6000 drops to around $100, I'll probably make the switch. My system is still pretty good and just needs a new hard drive setup to make it feel a little snappier. Thanks again...
