What is the card of cjoice now. I am thinking about buying a new card as my friend will take my 7500. What is the card to buy by ATI right now the reg 64 DDR 8500 or the 128 version.

From nvidia what is a good performance/value card.

I used to be up on this stuff but it is just too nice to be inside at the pc in the summer.

I was going to upgrade my 64meg 8500 to a GF4 4400 (Asus seems to be the best card as if you hunt you can find them with 2.8ns memory)

But as it turns out a friend is selling me a Leadtek ti4600 for about the same price as a ti4400 so Im going with that.

Many people are going with the ti 4200 if they can find one with low ns memory chips...

Other people are waiting on ATI's new GPU out in a few weeks.

Are you more confused now? :)

Indeed, if you have spare money :D wait for the new ATi card. Im gonna get that card for sure, seeing how ATi's still going strong with there 8500 even though its old (according to the industry, lol) Im sure the R300 will be awsome.

i read somewhere on the forums someone said it should debut in a few weeks.

dunno if thats right.

edit- doh! it was in this thread. haha.

there ar 2 new ATi cards due out, both on aug 10. the r250 is a radeon 8500@ 300/300 (r8500 is 275/275), this will either be called the radeon 8800 or 9500. the r300 will be called either radeon 9500 or 10000 and should beat out the GF4 Ti 4600 by quite a margin as well as offer better image quality and directX 9 cmbatability.

on the other side the NV30 is due out between november and the begining of 2003.

If you need a new card before then I'd reccomend the GF4 Ti series, the 4200 is reasonably priced. If it has to be ATi then the radeon 8500 is your best option till aug 10th. there is a gigabyte radeon 8500 clocked at 300/300 but im not sure if its out yet. Id reccomend getting a built by ATI radeon 8500 (not LE), as they have the highest clock (275/275) and fewer issues. the AIW Radeon 128mb is also clocked at full speed, while the AIW radeon 8500dv 64mb is clocked at 230/190 with 5ns ram.

thanks for the feedback, prolly wait for the new ATI card, also considered a MSI Ti500 cause I can get one cheap, like $185 canadian ($120 US)
