v92?

hey you guys know of the new V.92 modems? Are they any good? Do you notice a speed difference?

From what I have heard speed is not upped (we still have a (approx) 53k limit on phone lines for analog transmission). Connection is quicker and there is new support for call waiting.

The downstream is still 53333kbps (fcc standards) - however upstream is now 44000kbps (whereas v90 is 33,600) - And of course theres modem-on-hold which means if someone phones you your connection goes on pause till your finished with the phone (up to 16 minutes) - However not many ISPs support v92 yet

Yes compression is improved - again make sure you check your ISP to see if they support v92.

No better yet, ask them if they support it, then ask them if they can explain the difference between V.90 and V.92.

Alot of ISP's around here are telling people that they support it and they don't, and they don't even have a clue what V.90 is.
