i have hard drives d, e, f
installed windows xp many many times, dont remember where i installed the latest \windows dir. to
is there a way to find the system drive?

Drives are named as follows:

- C: is the first primary partition on the first drive (IDE #1 master). Then letters are assigned to all other primary partitions, then starting from the first drive, all logical partitions are named.

C: would be the primary partition on the first drive. If this is not present in My Computer then I think that Windows cannot understand the filesystem.
