I know this is an old thread.
Should anyone consider working in metal without having a mill use a jig and a variable rechargeable drill. You can buy suitable bits through the link above. For cooling use a light oil when in metal but use alcohol (white spirit) when cutting in aluminium.
Oh, do not forget to mount the metal in a vice. If possible use a table where you can move the vice as if the table on a mill.
Otherwise you need to move the vice manually which is trickier but possible. Do not forget that when working in metal you need to work on much lower rpms and apply a steady pressure on your bit.
