hey, i just wanted to start a little post about my little upgrade i have coming tonight... i am going from my pentium 4 2.0a (400MHz fsb) to a pentium 2.4 (533MHz fsb) i am going to take a load of benchmarks tonight and compare them once i install everything. should be interesting to see. with my new ram, i am replacing a generic stick with kingston so that *should* let me get some more aggressive timings... my generic stick has been holding me back for some time now...

Cool!

I have subscribed to this thread, I will be interested to see what performance differences are between a 2.0 and a 2.4.

okay, i am running benchmarks at the moment to give a nice round picture of what is going on. i've ran sandra 2003, 3d mark 2001 se, and pcmark 2002. anybody know of any other benchmarking programs that they would recommend me running as well? i figured the more the merrier :)

and i am not just buying a p4 2.4 because my 2.0 is slow... don't think i am a little rich kid who can spend all my money on parts... i am building my girlfriend a computer for part of her christmas present (plus a nice engagement ring :D )and i figured that instead of buying her a p4 2.0, i would get myself a little higher 2.4 and give her my 2.0 which runs fine. i just couldn't justify the extra money for anything higher than the 2.4... for a 2.53 it's ridiculous! they're asking $50 more for a mere 130 MHz... oh well... i will surely love my 2.4!

plus look at my rank on the left. i am a poor college student :)

*edit: well it appears that i won't get my stuff until monday :( apparently the shipment was held up, unlike my previous two... oh well... i will live... still i am going to post my benchmarks when i am done*

Cool. So a 400MHz increase gives a 1000point rise in 3DMark2001SE score. I wonder when the Vcard becomes limiting.
