if you are talking about the remote assistance that you find in winxp then no, you can't connect to the win98 machine... it needs the client installed which can only be found in winxp.

www.realvnc.com this app will let you connect to the win98 box, i just tried it the other day, and it's pretty much the same as remote desktop for winxp pro.

thanks...I have all the extra programs like PC anywhere, and VNC, along with all the other freebies...I was just wondering if it was a way...like use computer management feature in XP to connect..but I beleive that only be used on machines running 2000 or XP..
