would this work or be any good for adjusting fan speed?

okay found i can get them from newark for around $6 plus shipping i dunno what that will run... they can be found here , but i have a question, i assume i should get a lm2577T cause those are the 5pin straight lead packaging shown in the diagram unless i'm mistaken, but do i want an ADJ, 15, or 12 or does it really matter? thanks...
