with the price of controllers, might as well buy a new LCD, it will probably have better stats too....plus you can get a bigger one for less money : )

I'm curious to here from people with small LCD's connected via an S-Video RCA composite cable thing. How does the image quality look on LCD's with this type of connection? Is regular text clearly legible?
Specifically, how do you think something like this would look?:

The lcd you linked is 4", $140, 383x234 rez, and not true s-video (the description says that for s-video to connect, you need to dumb-down the signal with an rca composite adapter...bad! Svideo >greater>rca composite). The text *might* be legible but the screen is so small, i sorta doubt it. It will def be blurry, but i'm not sure how bad.

A sony 5" Psone LCD on the other hand only costs about $30~$45 on ebay, is 640x480 native, and can be modded to accept both vga and svideo inputs, which would look much better than using the rca input. The lcd is also strippable for mod use. Text is fairly blurry over rca-composite but that's the nature of the beast.

Hey, thanks for the links man! The PSOne LCD modding looks kindof complicated, but I'll read up and see if I would be able to manage something like that.
I guess I'll be staying away from the RCA composite video!

EDIT: Hey, sJetski, the link to that 8" LCD says the product is no longer available. Do you have any more links to any small LCD's (7" or less) with an analog VGA connector?

NP

The PSone lcd mod is probably only complicated if you've never done that sort of stuff before, otherwise i'd rank it around "novice/intermediate" but maybe that's just me(?). Otherwise if you're more interested in the 8" Hami lcd i posted pics of, there are three ebay merchants that sell them from time to time and they are:

Fencolo : http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZfencolo
Tamy2918 : http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZtammy2918 (<- Cheapest atm $134, item # 8740982002)
banankong : http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZbanankong

Be patient when searching for Hami lcd's on ebay since the auction title doesn't always say the word "Hami". Sometimes you have to study the pics carefully and look for the actual name in the pic.

BEGIN NEW PART

Alright so here is the deal. My sisters laptop (IBM Thinkpad A22p) has almost given out. It is old (P3 1 ghz with 384 mb ram) but one thing it does have is a great screen. It is a 15" uxga with a native resolution of 1600x1200. Seems to me like it would be a real nice candidate for making a projector. So the question becomes can it be done. It seems like it would be tough reading what i have read in this thread BUT all that info is from a LONG time ago. Has anything changed? Is this feasible?
