I'm not just losing files, I'm losing whole program directories.
It happens about 5-6 months after an install, 3 times now.
All registry entries are still there.
I have Norton's 2003 running (updated weekly, scanning in the background), A spam filter service that stops all e-mail but those from people I know, and I have dial-up internet that I use a couple times a day, so it's not a hack.
I don't share any c drive folders on my cat-5 network (with my wife's comp). I'm the only one with admin password, that I change weekly.
I've tried it with and without winupdates too.
I use all current drivers, but don't update without needing it (dial up).
And I don't have any p2p or chat ware installed.
My rig's not even OC'd either, so it's not drive errors. It happened on my last comp too.
I think I might try xp pro with sp1 this time. Maybe that'll work. On the otherhand, win98se always runs fine
