The Fortron 250 would cut out before it would catch fire - it has the required protection circuitry. Now, my old Deer OTOH would have exploded by now trying to run the same stuff as a 250 Fortron ;)

I am looking at the Antec TP 550. Is it worth the $20-30 to get the True Control 550 which is the TP 550 plus a front panel with fan control and fine adjustment for 3.3, 5 and 12V. Is that extra control useful?

I switched from a Antec truePower480 to a Antec True Control 550. The extra voltage that the 550 allows me to dial in has gone a long ways to controlling my highly fluctuating Vcore. It is now much more stable for Overclocking with the 12 volt reading 12.60 volts measured at a molex connecter compared the the unadjustable TP480's 12.07 volts measured at a Molex.

I think you bought a high quality dependable PSU. You made a good choice.

thanks i hope ican get better results wth this power supply but how about antec true power550w? here is the enermax specs
3.3V 50mV ±4% 0.3A / 36A
+5V 50mV ±5% 0.3A / 36A
+12V 120mV ±5% 1.5A / 36A
-5V 50mV ±10% 0A / 1A
-12V 120mV ±10% 0A / 1A
+5Vsb 50mV ±5% 0.1A / 2.2A
+3.3V & +5V 200W
TOTAL O/P 550W

and here is the antec:
+5V -5V +12V -12V +3.3V +5VSB
Max. Load 40A* 0.5A 24A 1.0A 32A* 2A
Min. Load 0A 0A 0.8A 0A 0A 0A
Load Reg. ±3% ±5% ±3% ±5% ±3% ±5%
Ripple V(p-p) 50mV 50mV 120mV 120mV 50mV 50mV

* +5V, +3.3V & +12V maximum output 530 Watts max.

which one gives more power?

I think the TRUE Max power output between the two will be negligable with a slight edge probably going to the Enermax. I think the main difference is that the Antec has rock solid non-fluctating voltage readings. Antec is Guarenteed to be within 3% of spec rail voltage while industry standards allow 5%. Plus I know you can adjust the TrueContol voltage up to 5% over and it will run rock solid.

IMHO there are alot better brand power supplies on the market than enermax. My last enermax is sitting on the floor of my closet in a box. Fortron/sparkle would have been the better option IMHO and woulda saved you money to put towards memory.

what happened to your enemax?

you are saying antec is better?

I wouldn't say it is better per say. I am implying that it is guarenteed to probably have the least fluctating voltage readings and guarenteed to be on spec. Plus you get the option of adjusting the voltage outputs with the True control. One thing I do know with a 100% certainty, you can get the Antec TrControl550 from PageComputers.com for $109.98. Which definately wins the price war. :D

I dont like Enermax's either...Fortron/Sparkle first choice...Antec second...PC Power and Cooling would have been a better choice in that price range...The Antec 550 Control would also be a better choice...Just built a box with one, nice piece...;)

have you tried this PageComputers.com ?are they reliable?

Nothing happened to it perse I just wanted to move to a better supply, one that I could depend on it's very small tolerances. I ended up going with a PC Power & Cooling for that rig. The enermax will probably go into my wife's computer when I rebuild it. It works fine for normal use.

I have ordered from them twice...purchased some PC2700 Sodimm for a Laptop and just Bought my Antec TrueControl550 & Antec PSU tester from them. They ship fast and ship cheap. I give them an A+ from my experience.

i think i will cancel the order form directon with enermax and i will go with antec550 but icouldnt find the true control550 they just have truepower550 without control unit. and iam still not sure isaw the abit ti4200 card with geforce5 fx cooling system that costs173$in googlegear my card is kinda slow mx440 you think video card is abetter option?
