The Fortron 250 would cut out before it would catch fire - it has the required protection circuitry. Now, my old Deer OTOH would have exploded by now trying to run the same stuff as a 250 Fortron

hitechjb1 said:I am looking at the Antec TP 550. Is it worth the $20-30 to get the True Control 550 which is the TP 550 plus a front panel with fan control and fine adjustment for 3.3, 5 and 12V. Is that extra control useful?
ps2 said:i ordered this EG651P-VE (FMA) 550w enermax from directron for 155$ what you guys think?
ps2 said:thanks i hope ican get better results wth this power supply but how about antec true power550w? here is the enermax specs
3.3V 50mV ±4% 0.3A / 36A
+5V 50mV ±5% 0.3A / 36A
+12V 120mV ±5% 1.5A / 36A
-5V 50mV ±10% 0A / 1A
-12V 120mV ±10% 0A / 1A
+5Vsb 50mV ±5% 0.1A / 2.2A
+3.3V & +5V 200W
TOTAL O/P 550W
and here is the antec:
+5V -5V +12V -12V +3.3V +5VSB
Max. Load 40A* 0.5A 24A 1.0A 32A* 2A

* +5V, +3.3V & +12V maximum output 530 Watts max.
which one gives more power?

what happened to your enemax?Deathknight said:
IMHO there are alot better brand power supplies on the market than enermax. My last enermax is sitting on the floor of my closet in a box. Fortron/sparkle would have been the better option IMHO and woulda saved you money to put towards memory.
ps2 said:you are saying antec is better?
have you tried this PageComputers.com ?are they reliable?the hammer said:
I wouldn't say it is better per say. I am implying that it is guarenteed to probably have the least fluctating voltage readings and guarenteed to be on spec. Plus you get the option of adjusting the voltage outputs with the True control. One thing I do know with a 100% certainty, you can get the Antec TrControl550 from PageComputers.com for $109.98. Which definately wins the price war.

I have ordered from them twice...purchased some PC2700 Sodimm for a Laptop and just Bought my Antec TrueControl550 & Antec PSU tester from them. They ship fast and ship cheap. I give them an A+ from my experience.

was it 550w?Deathknight said:
Nothing happened to it perse I just wanted to move to a better supply, one that I could depend on it's very small tolerances. I ended up going with a PC Power & Cooling for that rig. The enermax will probably go into my wife's computer when I rebuild it. It works fine for normal use.
