its upgrade time, and im browsing around for a new card.

ive been told that an 8500, a 9500, a 9500pro, or 9600 would be my best choices...

which ones, in your opinion, would be the better bang for the buck?

thanks.

imho the 9500Pro or 9600Pro are the best bang for buck right now for around 150-170$. The 9500Pro is a bit faster, but the 9600Pro is .13u and has more ocing potential and so it evens out in the long run.

The 8500 is a great card, but is really kind of old and I would only suggest it if you need a card for under 100$ and you dont want a ti4200.

you may find this info about 9600 pro helpful:

Not only is the 9500 Pro better but the 256-bit 9500np is alot better as well when both are overclocked.

The first and very few ones that went out overclocked in the 530++ range ... Very few went out like these and now you are lucky to get a 480 core clock.

I have tested a 9600 Pro(around 488/355) and (L-shape)9500np(around 365/320) (not modded) head to head /w clean reformats and the 9500np won every time. I tested with performance settings and quality /w 2xAA/4xAF & 4x/4x with 3dmarks and Vice City. This is a moderate overclock in the 9500np and a slightly above average OC on the 9600 Pro.

Radeon 9500 pro is a good buy but I dont know how easy they are to find for a descent price. Check Allstarshop.com. Other than that, 9700 non pro is a good deal right now for around $200. If you get that, you wont have to upgrade for a while (especially if you can get one that you can turn into pro)
