lol,
so do you guys think I should sell the 9600 and try to get something better? My buddy won the 9600 at a lan (along with his 9800) so thats how I'm getting it cheap. What card can I get for around 180 bucks that would be much better?

listen to what everyone is telling you. either sell or give the 9600 pro to your brother and keep the much faster ti4600. upgrade when 9800 pros drop to $100 or less ;)

When 9800 Pros are $100, they will be 3 years old

By that time you can get the current midrange card for $150 and it will dominate the 9800 Pro.

i would keep the 9600. but i like aa and af though. for the most part, the 9600 can do everything the 4600 can, but it can also run aa and af without much of a performance hit. to me, score means nothing, i want my card to play games well, and look good doing it, as long as its doing that i am ok.

I do not see todays "midrange" 9600 pro/xt dominating the $70 ti4200s

Not an equal comparison. When the Ti4600 (the high end of the line...you cant go comparing a 9800 Pro (high end) to a Ti4200 (the mid range of the line) gets to $100 brand new, the current midrange card will be faster

Example: When the 9500 Pro came out, the 8500 was still ~$100. The 9500 Pro owned that card

thanks for the replies guys,
so even if i oc'd the 9600 I couldn't get near the speeds of my 4600 in dx8 apps? If i keep the 9600 i plan on investing some cash into cooling (not water or anything like that).

a 9600pro is crap i hated mine and i "upgraded" from a Ti4200.
It just about beat it and my ti4200 was only at ti4400 speeds 9600pro was overclocked to max

i agree, if you arent going to use aa or af, keep the 4600, if you want to use aa or af, then get the 9600. without those settings, the 4600 will be faster. but with them the 4600 will slow to a crawl, and the 9600 will still chug along nicely. its more about whether you want iq, or raw speed. the 4600 has raw speed, but anything over 60 or so and you wont really notice it for the most part. the 9600 isnt as fast till you turn on the iq settings, then it will shine.

keep the 4600, with almost 17k 3dmark2k1 score thats pretty good going, and there is alot more in the ram in that card ;)

Overclock it some more and dont get the 9600 if u get a new card get something where you are going to notice a performance gain eg 9800pro :p

well I've decided that I'm going to give the 9600 to my little brother and sister. I'm ordering some ceramic adhesive for my ram sinks to see if that will help them cool better (that is unless someone can show me a good set of ram sinks for this card). And thanks to everyone that posted in this thread, you really helped (I was sure that the 9600 was better). I think my next card will be something when pci express kicks in (if its not tooooo long).

On a side note, here are the latest benches from my Laptop. Wish i could get more out of it though...
