After being left net-less for a week, I figured I would see how others rate their schools uptime.
Heres the break down:
Connection Type
1. T1 through gigabit linked Cisco switches
Number of useres
2. Around 1500 students
Uptime.
3. A. Great, always on, fast, reliable.
B. Good, notified downtime, there when you need it, ok speeds
C. Ok, some downtime, not always there, speeds are 56k +...
D. Poor. Down sometimes, SLOW, it works...
E. BAD. Down contantly, turtle slow, doesnt work, sucks!
Like it?
4. Eh it works.

1. On a JANET hub inside London. Linked to the rest of the U.K internet with a combination of dark fibre and 10 Gbit backbones :D

Number of users
2. Around 90,000 students on the London node. (All of London's colleges effectively operate as a bunch of linked networks within one single node).

Uptime.
3. A

connection: OC-3
users: 4,091 ethernet ports on/off campus
rate: B-C

... intercampus transfers are fast... but they use packet-shaping stuff to limit p2p transfers outside network.. also limit your allocated transfers to 5gb/2gb download/upload MAX per week.. including network transfers.
