I have a Leadtek winfast A250 GF4 TI-4600 working great. But want to upgrade. Go with 5700 ultra, 9600xt or wait for next gen video card.

I understand the need for a cheap new card...
yet maybe a 9800pro, for about $200-$230 would be my best bet.
bestbuy has a 9800pro for $250 with a $50 MIR ....200.00 total

yet if that's the only choices I'd go for a 5700u....about $170.00

btw, why wait? the newer cards will be top $$$, and we know little to nothing about them yet.

If those were your only two choices, then wait. Selling the 4600 for about $80, and then getting the 9800PRO OEM for $190 ($110 difference) would be a better solution.

yeah, and after r420, just wait again until the revised core comes out, and since youve already waited that long, why not wait one more generation..... just get one dude, you can play the waiting game forever if you continualy wait to see whats coming out next.

I am in the same boat as you. I am considering the 9800 Pro or 5900 maybe even the ultra, but I think its worth waiting for the new cards to come out just to bring the currents down in price.

The main reason i start watering at the mouth, you here things like 16 pipelines, 512ddr3, 16-24 pixel shaders. and soon your like dam i need one

after relooking at your sig, I'm thinking that a new mobo/CPU/ memory is a better upgraid then getting a new card.

yea, I wouldnt put an r420 on a cpu less than a 2.5GHz overclocked a64 or youd create such a massive bottleneck people with 9800 pros would match or beat your r420 with their faster cpus

Uhm...what? So since my CPU is not OC'ed to 2.5 or an A64 then I should not put a r420 on it? Why are you talking out of your *** again?

Edit:2los, I would definitely upgrade your system... memory, cpu, mobo and definitely video card, but would not go as far as getting a A64 just bc Oc550 told you to. And do it! Unless you plan on doing the waiting game forever.

for once I agree with OC550....

he has alot of room left in that ti4600...he's only using a P3
800

as for what you are OCed to....I think you'll be better off with your good old 9800pro
even my 9700pro had tons of room left when I jumped from 2.8ghz to 3.4ghz
I gained over 1000points in 3dmark03

not that the newer cards may not be good for you...but you may not be fully using them to the fullest potential.

3dmark 2003 is normally gpu intensive, but if your cpu is such a bad bottleneck, youd gain serious points there. I wont tell people not to get an r420 if their cpu isnt a 2.5GHz a64 or 4GHz p4, it is only a friendly suggestion as not to choke the card so bad. you may be better off getting like 90% the performance from a 9800 pro on slower cpus such as an xp3200 barton or a 3GHz p4. I can tell you right there I gained almost no performance when I upgraded my geforce2mx to a geforce3 ti500 back when I had my old 504MHz celeron. This made me realize my cpu was killing me bad here! got me a thunderbird and bam, performance in games with my ti500 doubled! no point using a $500 to $700 card on a $100 cpu

more like 65%-75% with the CPU's you stated....
lots of room left in that 9800pro.;)

btw, why did you quote me?
