Wondering how the FX5700 stacks up? Is it better than a TI4200? How does it compare to a Radeon 9700?

Well i had the 5700ultra and It was better than my TI4200.

The regular 5700 Is just clocked slower so overall I think its a good card for sure.

Just avoid the LE version. Its not as good.

9700 obliterates a 5700, a norm 5700 is a bit better than a 4200, but not by a huge amount.

9700 doesn't obliterate the 5700... it just barely passes it up. The 5700 Ultra does run neck and neck with it though.

If you're thinking about getting a 5700, don't.
Pay $10-20 more for a 5900XT/SE, which is lots faster.

Yeah Ill go with that too.

5700, The shirtlifters card?

Yeah... I'd skip the 5700.

If you want an affordable nvidia card, the 5900XT is a good consideration.

I tried a 5700U, didn't have enough raw power for Hi Res Call of Duty or UT2004.

Been very happy with the 5900XT though.

uhh......i hate to break it to u but..

5700:

128bit mem interface
4 pipes

9700

256bit mem interface
8 pipes

and not forgetting a 9700 can be turned into a pro quite easily making it even better than the 5700. and stock scores for the 9700pro in AM3 are around 42k as opposed to the 5700s AM3 score of about 30k

My 5600ultra and 5700ultra ran open gl just fine.

I think the regular 5700 should as well as its just an under clocked version of the ultra.

My 9500np hacked to a 9700 and OC'ed to what a 9700 pro runs at scored me around 5200 in 3dmark2k3 on my current comp. I wonder how a 5700 would score? I played CoD on that same card at high settings without a blip as well. NFSU ran awesome on that card too. I sold the card and am now in the market for something comperable or better for under $200. What by Nvidia can I buy in that price range that will get me that?

I think you should go with the 5900XT or 5700ultra.

The 5700ultra will probably be hard to tell the difference in gameplay but the numbers will sugggest otherwise.

And I could care less about numbers.

I say which ever one you get a good deal with.

5700U is a gooid card, but a little pricey when compared to an FX5900 or R9700...in that price range, it too expensive and underpeforming, better choioces are R9700 or FX5900

well everyone else has bosted there opinion so i might as well sit in.

the plain fx 5700 is a slow card and not realy worth the money compared to other cards, but the 5700 ultra on the other hand is the badest 4 piped card on the market at the moment , litteraly smashing the ATI 9600xt. overclock ability of the fx 5700 ultra is unreal. a 700mhz core clock on the fx 5700 ultra is easy if you have the right card and the know how!not to mention the newer fx 5700 ultras come equiped with ddr3 wich runs alot cooler than the origanal ddr 2. the cards run extremly cool therefor no real need in changing factory fan/heatsink except to apply some good thermal paste.

as for the 5900xt, good all around card but poor overclocker they are cheap for a reason!

if you are going 5900 get the plain fx 5900 (my choise, if you are a true gamer)! i saw them on price whatch the other day for i think $250 witch is only $50 more than what you'd pay for a good 5700 ultra or 5900xt and believe me its money well spent!

good luck and let us know what you pick out and how you like it!

I have to agree. I have the 5700 ultra and i'm slowly oc'ing it right now. its running unbelievably cool for as hard as i'm pushing it. but even with the oc'ing, a buddy of mine just bought a 5900 and it outscored mine out of the box on 3dmark03 and pcmark...which was a swift kick in the balls. after i reach the limits of my oc'ing, i'm going to test him again and see where i stand...i wasn't too far behind him before. currently, i'm at 503mhz core clock (which isn't a big step up from stock) and i can't remember what the memory clock ended up equating to. By tonight, I'm shooting for >600mhz core. I hope you're right about it handling 700+. wish me luck.

stock cooling and no mods my albatron 5700 ultra hit 620/1050 i think it was! ya you cant compare it too a 8 piped card because 4 pipes and 8 are two totaly differant things! but for 4 pipes it's raw! as for the 700mhz core you'll probly have to volt mod it?

volt modding will be a must. My gigabyte 5700 Ultra topped out at 585Mhz core and 1.00Ghz memory with stock cooling and voltage. It scored a 4385 on 3Dmark 03 (which i think is lame) with some minor fragmentation. The fragments only show up a little on the benchmarks though....even after some serious game time on Farcry and MOHAAS, none were to be seen. I've come to the conclusion that:

1. As you said, volt-modding will be needed to break through to the upper levels that I want to reach.

2. Benchmarks don't mean a damn thing as long as game play is smooth and fragment free.

Thanks all....hopefully, next time when I post an update, I'll be running smoother and at higher clock speeds. By the way, my temp maxed out at 46c core. I'll take it on stock cooling.
