What Core does the 6800's have? NV40 or NV45 12pipes or 16?

Okay so I keep hearing different rumors about the nvidia cards. Some people are saying that the NV40 is only 12 pipelines and the NV45 is the 16pipeline card. What does the 6800ultra have in it? Is nvidia planning on changing the GPU during production? What is going on, I can't seem to get a definite answer on this from any source.

NV40 and 41 have 16 pipes. The regular 6800 has 12 pipes, with 4 disabled. THAT card is going to the higher clocking NV45, with a natural 12 pipes.

That way it will keep up with the x800PRO. However the NV40 will shift to the NV41, which will clock higher and support new features, in the same way we saw the 5800 ---> 5900.

do you mean the 5900 --> 5950? Or is the4 NV41 on the 6800 ultras right now?

No I meant the 5800 -> 5900. The 5950 has the same core as the regular 5900. While the 5800 has a totally different, and wholly ****ty core.

Their next chip revision will phase out current 6800s because they are so damned expensive to make. While the mid range cards get teh NV45 with 12 native pipes.

Ah okay. When I bought my 5900ultra I had always figured that the 5200's 5700's 5800's and the 5900's all came out at the same time. And then I went back a week later to pick something up and noticed the 5950ultras. So why would they produce a newer revision and make it weaker? I guess that's pretty much how the 9800xt's had the older chip and the 9600xt's had the newer ones. I guess they'll be basing the next round of cards on the nv45+ then? I guess I'll just wait for a 6900 type card to come out, I'm sure my 9800xt will hold me over until then. I just hope that either asus has their 915 478 board out by then or they make that card with agp(doubtful) BTW what does bridged and native mean? I know that nvidia chose to bridge their cards while ati went with native. And the nv45 is supposedly "almost not bridged" I have no clue what the hell that means.

No, the NV4x core has native PCI-E support. You are thinking of the NV3x, like the 5950 etc. They use a bridge chip.

The 5900 was supposed to de-throne the 9800XT, it didnt work. However the chip revision made them competive again. The 5900 was *THE ONLY* decent FX card in existence, all others were terrible.

I think that the 6800 is a fine card, but you are correct, your 9800XT will hold you over. Its a question of do you want to? I upgraded from a 9800PRO, no complaints here.

Besides you can sell your 9800XT for decent money now, instead of later.
