Every now and again whilst using XP Professional an error pops up and my machine restatrs.

Upon restarting an error eeport is shown and the files included in the error report is...

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini072404-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Dan\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

Can anyone assist as it is really getting boring now!

Thanks

I would suggest running Event Viewer (in order to access the error logs, and check for any critical errors)...Start | Run | Type eventvwr.msc and hit OK | Highlight "Application" and "System" independently in the LH pane | Right click any error message(s) (critical errors are in Red), and select "Properties" | Write down a couple of the latest error messages exactly as they appear (under the "Description" field), and post them in this thread.

Also, open the System Information tool by typing msinfo32 in the Run box | Expand "Components" | Highlight "Problem Devices", and look for any problems that might be listed there.

Re: your original question of "What is a minidump"?...It's a picture of the content of core information in memory at the time the dump was made (at the time of a crash). It's only really of use in sending it to Microsoft in a report of the error.
