I remember reading that Toys R Us would pay toy companies to be the sole supplier of some popular toys, then they could mark up the prices on them.

After the walmart in my part of town came in, 2 supermarkets, K-mart, and an Osco went out of business. It wasn't necessarily walmart's fault though, those stores already sucked, they were dark and had 0 selection, all but Kmart had the stupid club cards.... Walmart was just the final nail in their coffins. Just wish someone else would move in, there's the nice new walmart and the new businesses that surround it, then the run down lots where the others used to be
