I dont think I have much interest anymore in the 9800pro/xt after what ive seen with the 6600gt reviews, stock they are like a 9800xt and with .11u they overclock much better. also at $199 they are cheaper than 9800xts too. plus u get ps3.0 I think ill just hold out for a 6600gt unless ati comes with something equally as good, perhaps x700xt?

i think those will only be pci-express... not sure tho.

Have you guys noticed that there isn't even a PCI Express chipset for the A64 yet? ATI and Nvidia would have to be stupid to release PCI Express-only gpus this early. Until there is an AMD chipset that supports PCI Express there will still be AGP cards made. IMHO of course.

Google 6600Gt or x700 and youll find there clocks. The 6600Gt is 500mhz core and 500mhz DDR-3 Ram. By atleast 5 reviewers the core oced around 50-100mhz and the ram which is 2ns already mazed out another 80-200Mhz, These are all reference cards so when 3rd part developers pump this out with some crazy cooling I think we may have some ****znit ocers. As for a the x700 I heard there is only 2 types x700pro and xt, from a link threw google. It will be clocked same as 6600Gt 500mhz/500mhz im almost certain of it as a couple of links say it it, with ddr-3 ram. The only advantage Ic is that the 6600Gt is built off of .11 micron which produces less heat so yields better ocing, and if comes with all the rich 3.0 shaders. . BTW the 6600GT gives roughly bout same performance of a x800xt in doom3. Only con for Nv is that is has a 128bit memory interface. If ATi were smart they will jump to the chance and make there 256bit. :)

if ati's x700 are 256 bit ram they win me again and they will make their 9800 pro and xt way obsolete too LOL. ive been looking for a 500MHz 9800 pro/xt and now a stock x700 is 500MHz on .11u with 600MHz overclock LOL

I would be pretty surprised if x700's are 256 bit as it would only be slightly slower than an X800 Pro. My guess is it will be a 128-bit with DDR3 like the nvidia 6600GT version. If it is 256-bit it would likely be more expensive than the 6600GT. Remember these are $199 cards - don't expect $399 results.

If you want a fast card, then buy a fast card.

I couldn't agree more.

They are coming out on the 21st

X700XT - clocked at 500/1000 MHz
X700PRO - 420MHz core/864MHz memory
X700 - 400/600 MHz

the cards use a 128bit memory from the looks of it they will be faster then the 9800 and are alot cheaper wright now then X800PCIE cards so I will probebly go for the X700XT and buy a X800XTPE when they are cheap.

128 bits for both? oh I wonder if the x700xt can still beat the 6600gt, it had better for costing 50 more and lacking ps3! I still have my eyes on a 6600gt unless I get a real good 9800pro/xt for well below $200

edit:

X700XT - clocked at 500/1000 MHz
X700PRO - 420MHz core/864MHz memory
X700 - 400/600 MHz

maybe ill take the x700 if its cheap enough(129?), thats already almost as fast as the 9800xt but less ram bandwith. with .11u core, maybe I can clock the x700 to like 550 core. the loss of ram bandwith may limit me with aa/af which I dont use anyway. I may lose a little at 1600x1200 but at like 1280x960 its gonna rock!

I am really happy with the Xx00 series architecture so far. I just installed a 9800MR in my i9100 and it pulled a 6498 3dmark03.

Looks like the X700 will use DDR, the Pro will use DDR2, and the XT will use DDR3. Think you can get 150MHz overclock out of the X700 on the core - that would be a VERY good overclock.

I'd still get the 6600GT if I was you OC550..

Yah its looks like the 6600GT still has my vote. Its like what 50$ cheaper than the x700xt and has rich 3.0 shaders. BTW Quake4 will be using Doom3 engine so thats a bonus. The clocks looks dead even, with both 128bit ram interface and DDR3. Its gonna really come down to the card architecture and driver support. ;)

It looks like Geforce FX cards won't be that compatible with much of the new dX9 software coming out due to an issue in the pixel shader hardware. There is a flaw in nVidia's pixel shader 2.0 architecture and consequently causes a cascade effect in certain dX8 games because of backward compatibility problems with pixel shader 1.2 based code.
Certain dX9 shader code is also incompatible with these chips which means a lot of new software will not work correctly. This problem looks set to be present in nVidia's PS3.0 technology as well, so the 6800 has the dX8 cascade problem, and will most likely have problems with upcoming dX9 releases as well.

there is no fix for this - it is a hardware problem

errr........this is gonna be hard to decide, the 6600gt for speed or the 9800pro or x700pro for quality and bug free? oh and I told people not to bother getting fx cards, now its comming back to bite em, I worry if I get a 6600gt it will have problems in tomorrows games like the fx are having already. even the old school 9700 pro runs any game fine
