Alright so here is the story.

I took a 40 gig HDD from a compaq computer my friend was getting rid of to use for media storage and such. Basically I got it in the jumpers are all fine and I can access the HDD but here is the problem; If I try to run scandisk on the HDD it freezes before it even starts and if I shut my computer down such that scandisk runs when I start up again it will freeze the same way and I am unable to boot until I unhook the slave HDD and go back to just using the primary. Any ideas on how I can fix this? I formated the drive and everything I am just at a loss.

Thanks in advance..

Sounds like the drive is bad. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the diagnostics and run them.
