heya, ive been wanting to RAID 2 hdds for a while now, but i dont have hdds of the same size..[40gb and 160gb] my question is, is it possible to put the 40gb into RAID 0 with a 40gb PARTITION on the 160gb, leaving the other 120gb in a non RAID environment? if it is possible, would there even be an increase in performance? sorry if this has been brought up before, its 2:51am here in NZ, and I tried to look thru as much RAID stuff as I could but didnt find it lol.

Thanks for any help,

Why people try to raid disks of different sizes I will never understand.

RAID should be the exact same hds, anything else defeats the purpose.

I would also say that you'd need to construct a software-RAID for it to work. From what I've heard, RAID controllers can't set aside X GB of disk space on a large disk for use with another disk -- it's all or noting. Software RAIDs like could be set up through windows probably will let you, but I'd bet your performance wouldn't exactly be stellar.
