Hey yall, im so confused about all these different 6800's

from what my roomy and others keep telling me this is the stuff i need on the card.

1. 6800 NON ultra, NON gt (just the cheap reg one)
2. 128mb card ram
3. 256bit speed
4. GDDR3 ...no friggin clue whats special about that.
5. Needs to be softmodable from 12x pipelines to 16x and 6 shades
6. Needs to be Name brand (Leadtech, Chaintech...some other nice brand)
7. Price = ~$280

I will be ordering this coming week. so which card should i get that fulfills all those requirements?

thanks for any help.

Just picked up a BFG 6800 oc at Best Buy for $255.00 plus tax.The bfg card comes overclocked with lifetime warranty. Just replaced my 9500 pro with this card. The 3dmark03 score went from 3600 to about 8000! :D :attn:

the 128mb cards dont have gddr3 ram. if you want gddr3 you would have to pick up the asus gamers edition card. its expensive though cause it has 256mb.

as for the pipelines its pure luck if they work properly or not. the chance is a little bit better then 50%.

There is no gurantee with the pipeline mod. I have a Chaintech AA6800 Turbo, and I can run 12x1, 6vp. While others with the same card can run 16x1, 6vp.

Go buy the Leadtek A400 THD 6800 or chaintech AA6800. These appear to have good success rate at soft modding they come with 12 pipes 5vp and MIGHT mod to 16/6. The Leadtek is clocked at 325/700 the chaintech at 325/770, (core may be a bit higher but I think it is 325)

The Leadtek has excellent stock cooling and a very good games bundle and no receipt is required for warranty in case you misplace or lose it. The chaintech looks pretty decent and comes overclocked 10% out athe box.

I have played with 3 Leadtek 6800 cards 1 of the 3 soft modded but in one particular 3D03 and 2 tests in 3D05 artifacts and anomolies appeared at 16/6. 12/6 it ran fine. As mentioned all the 6800 vanilla cards have 128 DDR1 vs the one exceptiopn the Asus gamers edition which has 256 DDR3 and a higher pricetag.

Also I have seen comments that the BFG card is better with the reference cooler vs the newer dual fan cooler. An like you mentioned price range isd from 250-280 with MSI NX6800 coming in at 292 @ newegg.com , it is a nice card as well.

sounds like his roomies are describing an EVGA 6800 Limited Edition. 256mb gddr3 and 325/1100 out the box. 100% of them are 16/6 cards and most (like mine) overclock very well (better than most gt's).

Ill see what I can do to help you out. There *are* several flavors of 6800. I will go thru them in the order of performance. Starting with the 6800UE.

6800 Ultra-Extreme (aka UE)
-Pixel Pipes: 16
-Vertex Pipes: 6
-RAM Speed: 1200mhz (GDDR3)
-RAM Size: 256MB (and later 512MB)
-Clock Speed: 450mhz

6800 Ultra (aka U)
-Pixel Pipes: 16
-Vertex Pipes: 6
-RAM Speed: 1100mhz (GDDR3)
-RAM Size: 256MB
-Clock Speed: 400mhz

6800 GT
-Pixel Pipes:16
-Vertex Pipes:6
-RAM Speed:1000mhz (GDDR3)
-RAM Size: 256MB
-Clock Speed: 350mhz

6800U LE (Ultra Latest Edition, aka 2nd Edition)(made only be EVGA)
-Pixel Pipes: 12
-Vertex Pipes:5
-RAM Speed: 1100mhz (GDDR3)
-RAM Size:256MB
-Clock Speed: 325mhz

6800 NU (aka Non-Ultra, or plain 6800)
-Pixel Pipes: 12
-Vertex Pipes:5
-RAM Speed: 750mhz (GDDR2)
-RAM Size:128MB
-Clock Speed:325mhz

6800 LE (Non-Ultra Latest Edition)
-Pixel Pipes: 8
-Vertex Pipes: 4
-RAM Speed:750mhz (GDDR2)
-RAM Size:128MB
-Clock Speed:325mhz

I Hope this helps ;)

one correction to the above all the eVGA card that are Limited Edition come with 16/6 pipes there have been no reports of 12 pipe cards. but there have been varying clock speeds . 325/700 and 325/1100. Mine came with 325/700 but flashed to the GT14 bios and runs 400/1100 and necxt I am flashig to Ultra14 bios but I have not even played with any overclocking yet and the card runs like a champ!
