PCI-E(xpress), or PEG (PCI Express Graphics), not PCI-X.

Interesting - pretty high overclocks allowed under warranty: From Beyond3D

As this utility operates speeds that are still warranted by ATI, and presumably their board partners should they wish to activate it, the potential ceiling limits are possibly still lower than some “extreme” overclockers may like, however in this instance they may be more than enough for the casual user – on the X850 XT PE the upper potential core limit is 648, representing a potential maximum 108MHz increase via OVERDRIVE, and memory of 646MHz, which is 59MHz above the norm.

wow almost 650MHz core/ram! wont this kill the card? you could say you clocked it this high and it permaently artifacts now and you want to rma it, will they still honor the warrenty that you broke it by overclocking?

Check the quote above you, if the card makers enable this on their cards they would have to honor the warranty unless otherwise they offer the sofware with a warning.

The overclocking software in CCC will automatically reduce the o/c once the temps hit a certain point. I guess it's the heat that kills them, not the actual speed.

Yes it has happened to some, but it's not common and most of those cases resulted from flashing the bios, and besides we all know that there is always a risk when ocing.
