Microcenter has them for $220  last time I was there, the 256mb and 256 bit, well that was last week, I dont know if the deal is still there ......

You can look in forums classifieds, I am not sure there are any at ocforums, but they are usually at anandtech's classifieds for around $150 if you don't mind used.
I know CC had them for 199.00 AR a month ago, might be back again

But those are most likely 128mb cards. Also why do you want a 256mb card, when you can get something better with 128mb for less.

was their a difference in the ram? its for a friend he wanted the 256, he doesnt know right from wrong though.. yeah micro center has it listed for 229.00 might have him get it there.. searching on whioch is better and why now

also i have been banned from the oc classifieds for posting a sale i was doing on ebay and selling it here to anyone if they wanted it first..

microcenter is your best bet, and these are the revision 2 versions that have the identical Hynix ram to the 9800XT as well as same pcb. THe ram is DDR1 vs the DDR2 that came on the 1st revision 9800 Pro 256 cards, which came with R350 cores and did not overclock gereally as well as revision 2 carrds w R360 core. The newer cards also have the square with a corner missing heatsink if you follow what I mean not the rectangular finned one.

I had one it flashed to XT fine, great card and a decent price at 220 or 229, but also consider a 6600GT for around the same and it is faster

Yep, unless you're a die-hard ATI fan, there's really no reason to buy a 9800 pro, when you can have a 6600GT for the same price.

I agree with MassiveOverkill on this one. The 9800 Pros have been in short supply over the past few months, and this is why you are seeing these inflated prices. The 6600GT is on par with the 9800 Pro in gaming performance, and many times it is faster. If your seriously looking at getting a 9800 Pro though, check out the 6800 non-ultras. They are way faster than the 9800 Pro's, and you can find them for around $275 or less. Just my 2 cents.

but the GeForce 6600 GT (128MB RAM - GDDR3) [500/900] - [128-8x1]
and the 9800 pro are 9800 - Flavours (R350-360) DX9
XT [412/730] - [256-8x1]
Pro(256MB) [380/700] - [256-8x1]
Pro(128MB) [380/680] - [256-8x1]

so your difference is the ram speed and type, cause the pipes are the same, no biggie., just seems like it is going to run hotter,, the 980 pro was going to be oc'edd to xt, can the 6600gt also be oced?

also he will be using it for eq2 also... heard problems with the nvida cards..
