I have installed it before, played and registered via stream, Now after formating HD and clean XP install I get this:

I have cleaned the disk surface too ?????????????

Have you contacted Valve or Steam to get help with this? It sounds like they have locked down your copy of HL2 so that it cannot be installed again.

I sent them an email, but this was a legit copy I bought at Waalmart just when it came out...............

Just go and DL steam and you can preload the entire thing from the web.

Its slow, but it works.

Ja did that for 4 hrs (thanks for DSL!!!) and now I got everything, works well. So I think my CD is bad.......
