abit vh6II and aureal sound card

hey anyone explain why I can't get get my aureal vortex1 sound to work on this board, ac97 sound just doesn't cut it for games I get no sound intially after each time i enter into a new map on a game so I switched back to my aureal and it freezes right after bootup on 98se or millenium(even after clean formats and installs). No matter which pci slot i use it still freezes.

You did disable the onboard sound?

yup

Yeah, In bios and disabled the ac97 codec in bios like the manual explains.

If you're overclocking try to play with the CPU speed a little, the card might not like the PCI speed.

Its not overclocked but still locks when it seems device drivers loading i believe its an irq conflict any info on proper way to change irqs or sites about this please let me know

You need to put devices in pci slots that do not share irq's.

PCI 1 & agp share a irq.
PCI 4 & usb ports shar a irq.
