Well folks, It seems the good ol' Microsoft company has done it again to me.

You are probaly wondering why I said that, the reason is that I cant defrag

Anymore. :eh?:

It started about 4 months ago I only had a Zone Alarm fire wall (If you ask me it was completly use less except for blocking wanted programs.)

So I ended up with a million computer viruses which is a equivlent of a nucl-

ear bomb. Yea, I know, I should have done something, but I didn't

have the money to buy a Real anti-virus program. So, after 1 month I

Notice that im getting alot of Pop-ups in Interent Explorer (Im not sure where

they got that name, but the only thing i've been exploring in the great word

of the internet is, Virsues, and Porn spam on my e-mail[ I do not go to Porn Sites].)
Then after another month goes by I realize

(after switching to mozzilia) that my Interent explorer does not work [Good

lord this happens everytime.] So, then 2 more months go by so where to now.

So, I went to go try and defrag today, and As well update my firewall ( Hey

What do you know, they made a patch so IE won't be overtaken by a virsus.)

So, I type in the one owrd command "defrag" ,and I get a black box it the top

left of my screen that is the size of about 400x500 . It is gone in a flash so I

can not read it.

You may be asking why dosn't he just reinstall. The problem with reinstalling

is that I can't mange to find all my game disks so until then I ahve to deal

with it. So my question is is there away to defrag, or fix the built in systm

There are third party defragmenters and disk clean up programs I am sure you might find helpful, sorry I don't know any specific ones to try. They may even be a waste, but its worth googling and doing a little research.

Well if you are running Windows XP Pro (as I am) this command does the same thing for me, nothing. You need to go into:
"My Computer"
Right Click on the drive to defrag,
Click "Properties"
Click "Tools"
then hit defrag.

Anyway, that is the best way to do it in XP. If it is not XP then good luck :)

Sounds like you are loaded up pretty good with malware/viruses. The first thing you need to do is deal with that stuff, then go for system maintinance.

So here's the order I would go for:

  • Removal of malware, viruses & Trojans. Msconfig , Google, Explorer, & regedit are the main tools for this.
  • Verify their removal
  • Run updated AV definitions system scan
  • Run updated Spybot S & D scan
  • Run updated CWshredder scan
  • Update all Windows components via Windows Update
  • Defrag - Right click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. Scroll down to the Defrag Utility. You need at least 15% usable disk space for a successful defrag.

If your on XP, make sure the native firewall is on. SP2 will do this for you. Make sure you always logon with a password. Using an automatic Windows logon is just asking for trouble.

Put the HD in another computer run Adaware, Spybot, AVG and others to start the clean, then defrag from there. Put it back into your system and see if its any better.

well, first off, a defrag isn't going to help you much. Defrag is supposed to speed up hard drive access, but if your computer is slow, it's not because your files are fragmented, it's b/c your computer is being attacked by the adware.

It may be too late to save your computer, IMO, I had a computer that was attacked by adware and malicious popups. I had popup blockers, adaware pro, S&D, regedit, Symantec, and more, NOTHING stopped the adware. So I reformatted, reinstalled, and what do ya know, it works fine now.

First off, you should be behind a firewall or router, not a software firewall, they don't do **** IMO. You need to beef up your adware removal tools, windows updates, and virus scanning tools, then you might have a chance of saving your computer.

I fixed my virus scan.. So now I am going to have it scan while im going to have it scan everyday at 12:00Pm (I dont leave computer on at night.) And im going to start backing up files soon, but im going to make a last effort to save it... MY virus removes adware 2, but its like a leech It seems like there is a file somewhere that it cant reach... Oh what happens if you delete a virus does it just delete it or delete the file?

Often the source of a virus or trojan is a hidden read only file that even an administrative account cannot access or delete without a little work. Like in the prefetch folder, I recently had a client box that had massive infection. Showing hidden files and folders this folder showed nothing in Explorer, but right click and view properties of this folder and guess what. It was over 3mb in size!

These pricks are very tricky, but if your smart you can make all their efforts useless.

I would backup first then run AVG(just cause its free and it works) and then run spybot and adaware and the rest of the programs. After that, just defrag it and it should run fine.
