Which is faster?

I am currently thinking of switching to Intel during the summer. I am wondering which Intel processor is faster:

Pentium 4 640 3.2Ghz

faster for what ? games ? video/audio encoding or rendering ?
the dual-core one will be faster in audio/video encoding and rendering and heavy multitasking, but in games it will be slower by 5-10%...but for games is anyway better what you have now...
so the dual-core cpu is what i recomend to you..
