    PCIe x16 connector

When is it necessary to power a pci-e video card off of the PSU? SLI only? Specific cards? I ask this here and not in video cards because it seems that there is a lot of discussion about which psu to get and some are left out because they don't have the pci-e cables.

    What exactly are you asking?

They need to be powered by the power supply when PCI-E cannot provide enough wattage.

If the card has a 6 pin PCI-E conector on it then you need to use it.
