My Tip for: If you really must remove your IHS

Great tip. safer using plastic than the blade. I found also that freezing the cpu for 15 minutes does make it easier for the blade to penetrate the corners.
I have a venice 3200 and a X2 3800 and for the venice my temps improved by 2C but on the dual core my load temps went from 52C down to 38C.

Sticky worthy?
Ill clean up the text and description if so. :)

JasonBr, I think if you write a detailed howto then it would be worthy of a sticky. There are several howto's out there at different sites. But I think you mabe onto something here. I also think that if you were to write a howto you should give different options on how to remove it. Some use the freezer method, razor, dental floss, and some have even tried different chemicals to break the glue down. So maybe do a little research about this and post different methods from all the different sites. Make a one stop shopping list what a killer of a skicky that would be. I would do it myself but I am way to lazy! LOL Here are some links if you dont already have them----

Yeah, removing the IHS safely is one thing I'd be iffy on... The overclocking doesn't stand nearly as much chance of ruining a CPU as this one. I was planning on getting some dead CPUs from a store for cheap to practice on, but with a detailed HOWTO, I may not need it =)

This man is on to something.

agreed jot. ive always been wanting to de-ihs my chip, but im really scared. my 6600gt was killed by a crazed me and maze4, and my 6200 died outta the blue and on all of days, day 16, and newegg only warentees refurbs for 15 days. i could see myself killing my 2800+, and being SOL.

Excellent idea there, I've always thought it risky to use a razor...sharp stuff + delicate stuff u shouldn't be cutting= no no! and mabe UH OH!

LMAO

hey man. i wasnt able to get this to work for me unfortunatly <_<. i had this game gube memory card case i butchered for it and all, and it wasnt really able to do much other than shave off the crap little by little. was much better using the razor blade throughout.
he he. its sad though. i wanna get another a64 so i can try this out again. its a great idea.

I was looking around for the plastic i used, but i must of thrown it out.

Best way to explain it, you know when you buy something and its in that clear plastic. (Kids toys, cheap electronics.) its its sealed shut and you have to cut the edged off to open it.

Its a very hard plastic , yet flexible. Literally it cut the seal almost as good as the razor. I could see it it was a softer plastic it might not be able to keep a sharp edge as you push through.

I cut it into a tear drop shape and used the edge.
If i can find it , ill take a picture. Hopefully Im a bit more clear than before.

Edit: Hey atleast we used the same razor :)

Ha, my temps went up. now i get to solve the problem of retention <_< my 90 is kinda retarded. they got those screws in there in a really annoying way so its like impossible *without mutilating them horribly* to unscrew them. would be a simple measure of adding a washer or two to compensate for the no heat spreader.
ah well. right angle screw driver, here i come.
