I've got a 1333mhz Athlon not in use and I want to build a rig with these features:

Smaller the better
Silent or near to it
Some overclock
Portable

I've got a 6600GT and a 120gb WD hdd that I'd use (or a 20gb laptop hdd if necessary)

Hmm, I'm re-reading my post and it doesnt seem to have a point, I left out something major:

I'm looking for a mobo and case suggestion. Any ideas are appreciated.

this sytem uses the pentium 4 socket 478 processor

but even for a mini-itx motherboard/case/power supply

that system is quite a steal at that price

i will be ordering 1 for myself

I just built something real similar to that, if you want to take a look. I'm going to go ahead and add it to my sig now, but if you want to come over some time to see it let me know.

Basically...

Soltek 75FRN2 ($30 refurbished from Newegg)
WD 800JD ($40 refurbished from Newegg)
2x256 Kingston CH-5 ($60 from classifieds)
Antec 3700BQE w/ 350w PSU (traded for something in the classifieds)
Radeon 9550 (part of two trades + upgrade deal)
Old Floppy
Whatever you want for an optical drive

It turned out pretty nice and fairly inexpensive. It helped that I had an unused license for Win2003 Server Enterprise Edition sitting around. :p Using an SLK800A on it with a Panaflo L1A and it's humming along very nicely. Granted I have a 1700+ JIUHB 0310, which is one of the best non-Bartons ever, but I can do 2.0GHz @ 1.475v - doesn't break 48C folding all day. But that's a tangent...

You want small, though. If you don't like the SFF idea, then what exactly did you have in mind?

here`s another linky

http://www.logicsupply.com/default.php/cPath/78_55

but i have to warn YOU!
the price of these motherboards are very high!
plus the cost of a case will add another 100.00 on top of that

the 1st link i gave you is the best deal around that uses a pentium 4
processor

just look at it

you get !

2 pci slot mini-itx case
a 250 watt power supply
pentium 4 mini-itx motherboard
( with 1 agp and 1 pci slot )

for 199.98 u.s dollars
there is no better deal around

if you do not like this setup

just google
and key in soltek qbic socket A with nforce 2 chipset
somebody should still be selling them

dude he want's a amd beacuse he already has the chip and it just needs to run red faction and quake 3. and cheap.

do not call me dude ( jackass )
if you even bothered scrolling down the page
you would have seen that all of those mini pc`s
are in fact socket A ( 462 )
and some of those use the nforce 2 igp chipset
others use a serial ata interface

It's a full ATX. The computer actually isn't an SFF system, it's a normal sized computer. It's a little cheaper that way, and I didn't need a true SFF system. I just put it in an SLK3000-B.

Calling someone a "dude," isn't the same as calling someone a "jackass!"

Had I had the powers, I might be tempted to "smite" you. Maybe you should re-consider your tone, please!

We are trying to help each other, not to fly off the handle here.
