Quick Barton question

I have researched a new computer for my cousin who is going to uni in a few days. We are buying the stuff now but one thing has me foxed.

He has found a better chip for the system, an AMD (socket A) 3000+ Sempron. Unlike the other socket A Semprons which are Tbred B's, this one seems to be a Barton core. So, quick question; what's the difference, and will it work in a standard AMD Socket A board?

He would be much better off with a 2600 mobile than a 3000 Sempron.

i'll second the mobile 2600+, it too is a barton, completely unlocked, and cherry picked

I'd recommend a Socket 754 Sempron to a Socket A Sempron.
