HP zt 1190 lap top no boot

I have the above laptop it will not boot to format and load os. CD drive will spin up and lite blink and then shut down. Screen will say press any key to boot, after doing so it will just sit there. I have replaced the cd dtive with 3 known good ones and same thing.Any idea's? thanks

I heard laptops come with a cmos battery, check that if you have one and do you hear your hd running. could be a dead hd. just some ideas.

Will it not boot from cd if H.D. is bad?? With xp should it at least get to the format drive section of install??? I dont even get into setup (not nothing), when booting from cd. thanks

You can run the win xp disc w/o a HD, so it isn't a HD problem. I would try swapping out the memory also with known good ram.
