Hi,

I recently upgraded to Windows XP Pro (from Windows 2000) and now, the OS is detecting my Hitach DVD-ROM GD-7500 a CD-RW Drive--which it suppose to be a DVD-Drive. Also, I am having trouble loading a DVD movie so I was thinking if I can update the driver.. it would fix it, but I cannot find one. Can someone help me find one? I tried googling it, but its giving me results of drivers that are compatible with Win98. Please let me know.

Thanks.

Have you tried updating the firmware? http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=87

I'd pick the 0008-2 unless you want to go RPC1.

Note: Remember that flashing firmware can be dangerous, just like flashing your motherboard BIOS. If the power goes out while you are flashing you may render your DVD-ROM inoperable.

Thanks, but how do I install the 00008-2 firmware and how do I flash a firmware? I tried checking the website.. so far, I can't find it.

1st create a bootable floppy disk. If you're using Win2000 or WinXP then you'll have to get a floppy boot image, such as http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/win98_img.exe To use this image just insert a blank floppy into your drive and run the program.

2nd download the new firmware http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/dvds/75UPN082.zip and unzip it. You should have a file named 75UPN082.EXE - copy it onto the floppy you made.

3rd reboot your computer and boot off the floppy drive. After it finishes booting into DOS type in "A:\75UPN082.EXE" (without the quotes) and hit enter. After it finishes flashing remove the floppy disk and restart your computer.

Oh I see, but I have problem though. My floppy drive is messed up and it can't seem to load a floppy disks. Is possible to use a CD instead?

Yes, you just need to make a bootable CD with that firmware file on it and you should be good to go.

Created a bootable cd along via Lite-on CD Burner with files, but this time my Hitachi DVD-ROM GD-7500 can't read it.. I have a feeling there something wrong with it in the inside... Oh well, I think I'll just upgrade it to a DVD Burner instead.. probably a Lite-on or NEC.. which are going around $40+shipping+tax @ newegg.com

NEC 3540 is the newest NEC. I got it and love. NEC is by far the best :)

By any chance, do you know how the NEC dvd burner performance is compare to Lite-on's? They almost have the exact same specs.. I haven't look through the features though.
