Good to see your RAM will run 1T! You should notice a performance improvement, especially on RAM intensive apps.
Not too bad for a first OC - have you managed to push more than 2.9 out of it? Some newer 185's will go higher - the older ones drop out around 2.9 GHz. My older 180 dropped out at 2.8 GHz. Did you happen to record the second row of numbers/letters off the CPU before you installed it?

Over-clocking the HT Link like that can cause problems with communications, which can sometimes show up as HDD trash. Unless you've got a really high load on the I/O I'd still recommend 4x. But there have been people running thier HT Link that high w/out problems so give it a try if you want - just be aware of the possible issues ...

I've got an Opty 165 (LCBQE 0711SPAW) running 2898 (322x9) @ 1.45v under a Storm.
Haven't de-lidded it yet but will soon and can maybe push it up another 100 MHz ... :)

Just got hold of my Opty 180.

Got it at 2820MHz 235 x 12 @ Stock Volts and 960MHz HT

Firstly i'd like to say hi to everyone and a great looking forum.

I brought the Opteron 165 expecting hi OC's. I OC'd to 2600Mhz and used Orthos to stress it over night.

BlendTest7Hours.jpg

After 7 hours there was no errors. However I rebooted and the system wouldn't POST. Gutted!

SO i've had to settle for a modest OC, see sig.

Often on these systems a high OC wouldn't allow reset - it's takes a cold boot to restart. But to me that's a good sign that you're pushing the chip as far as it can go! :) I've got several machines like that with older CPUs in them; oddly the 07xx chips don't seem to have that problem.

Did you follow the sticky, Easy 1, 2, 3 ..., and test each component separately to see where the hang-up might be ...?

Give you the best recommendation

Unstuck due to age and the fact it hasn't been updated in two years ;)

I am rather happy with my over clock even with the 4x512MB of value ram...
But in a few days I will be getting some 2X1 gb PC4000 G-skill ram. that should boost my performance even at the same CPU speed.

Thought I may as well post mine up too :). Can probably get it higher, but don't want to trash it. SuperPi.jpg
