I have an IBM lappy and so far no sign of FSB settings in BIOS :)() any way I can still overclock it a bit? (i'm thinking 1.6-1.7GHZ)

you would have to pin mod the cpu... if its a 400fsb PM then yes it should work but also might need more volts too. if its a 533fsb cpu then no you can pin mod it...

Note: The laptop must also have the intel 915 chipset (533mhz fsb support) to pin mod.
not true the 855 supports 533fsb PMs

I have the i855GM chipset, i'm guessing its a no go?
well what cpu do you have the 400fsb one then? you never said use cpuz to find out unless you already know... worst case you lappy wont work cause the ram cant take the speed but with all the new ram out that shouldnt be a problem....

I assume that thing doesn't run too hot to begin with?
nope max heat output is 22watts @1.3ghz - 27watts @2.26ghz. If he does the pin mod on his PM and it does not need more volts then no i dont see heat even being a problem.

dont wana hijack just want answer--- wait, you are saying i can pinmod my 1.6ghz banias to 2.13 on my 855 chipset? I thought you have to have a 400mhz proc and put it in a 915 to pinmod.

you can pin mod the PM in 855 to use 400fsb as 533fsb parts. as well in new chipsets to be seen as 133/533fsb cpus... how ever some of the 400fsb parts will new more voltage you can pin mod those as well... there is lots of info at www.xtremesystems.com under the intel section there are 2 stickies about PM's still on going...

Wait, are we talking laptops here?

yes, why? the info there is for you to do the proper pin mod as the socket of the ct-479 is the same as the socket in your lappy...

sry im such a nub, but can you point me out to the post that shows how to pinmod the ct-479 so i can pinmod my 855? I'm seeing results of have a dothan on a ct-479, but i dont see antying on pinmodding it.

This says only 915 not 855

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62366

but here is where you want to go for voltage mod...
http://www.sudhian.com/printdocs.cfm?aid=656
as for pin moding the cpu for 533fsb here is a pic i found
http://www.picturebio.com/images/laptoppics/image6.jpg
and here is the link to the post

worst case you lappy wont boot just undo the pin mod.. i dont have a lappy to try it on with 855 but i dont see why it wont work since aopen and dfi released mobo's with that mobile chipset for PM's and 533fsb ones work just fine on them...

*edit*
im not telling you to do it as you might kill something if you dont get the wire in the right spot... if you do go through with it triple check ur self before doing it... also as long as you have the hsf off your cpu apply a proper coat of thermal grease even at stock speeds you should see a small diffence in temps...
