What could possibly be wrong with my dads laptop?

I say memory error but I tried putting a stick of my pc2700 sodimm in it and it wouldn't handle it so I couldn't test it, but I get this screen after about 10 minutes of going through windows xp setup.

I wouldn't think but it's a possibility. If it happens at the same time every time, it may be because of a hardware access violation/incompatibility. Did it have XP before? If so, then that may not be the case.

It came with XP, running memtest86 now anyways to see if anything turns up.

I'd say memory as I had this with a mates pc a replacement memory stick and it was sorted

last 10 times or so ive seen that its just corrupted windows. reinstall fixes it, assuming the hard drive is any good.
