Actually the HX and TX are a completely different series. Thier models have an M to show modular. Like mine is a TX650M. The GS500 will be a good choice for you. The difference between the models mainly has to do with engery efficiency. 80 PLUS, Bronze, Silver, Gold.

They changed it! That's rude.
That's what I get for not double checking to make sure the HX/TX designation still meant what it used to.
Thanks!

Hi again! :D I didn't bought that Corsair GS500 yet, because i've found something another

What do you think about XFX Pro 550W?

http://xfxforce.com/en-gb/Products/Power-Supply/XFX/Pro-Series/ProSeries-550W-PSU.aspx

In Poland I found, that it will be more expensive for me for only 7PLN (which is less than 2$? :D) and it is 80+BRONZE (not 80% like Corsair, but 85%! efficient) and I can get 6 years of warranty, when i will register it!

And one more think. Now my motherboard has connected adidional power suply for CPU with 4pin connector - ATX, because the LOGIC500 hasn't got a 8pin EPS connector. In the future, for 4core Phenoms for example it is better of course to have 8pin EPS connector connected, right? The Corsair GS500 and XFX Pro550 of course have it?

So which one is better, XFX Pro 550 or Corsair GS500? Can I see the difference between 80+ and 80+Bronze series on My bills?

Even if we leave the wattage of these PSU, wchich will live longer, be quieter and give me "better" energy?

4 pin connector is usually fine if you don't plan to overclock the CPU. There are adapter that takes an extra PCIe power connector and convert it to 8 pin connector.

4GHZ_or_bust thanks for Your answer! I think I will overclock the CPU, but not now... Anyway what do you think about XFX Pro 550? What are the adventages and disadventages when compared to GS500?

I'v bought a XFX Pro 550 and i'm waiting for it...:attn:

From what i know, that PSU was in stores for a while, and after it started to sell good its price is rising up... It was in the begining for something about 200PLN, and now i bought it for 269

Anyway i hope, that this is going to be good PSU for a long time with My PC... For single GPUs 550W is enough i suppose.

I have to say that dangerous PSU list has to change..

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=219

Kingwin make great stuff.. I think there should be a new guide made, this original post was over 5 years old now? Things have changed for some of those 'dangerous' power supplies.

Thermaltake XT and Grand series are fantastic PSU's. Rosewill Lightnings are based on the Superflowers, which are great.. I think it's time to renew this. lol

The original post gets updated pretty regular. If you scroll down to the bottom of the first post, the one with the lists of good and bad, it says this:

So it was updated not long ago. I wouldn't even want to count the number of times the original post has been updated.

The link you gave should help tho. I read their reviews myself.

:) :)

Find professional review links on the specific units and send them to Diaz for posting. The list is only for "The Very Best of the Best." Not all the Kingwin's rate "The Best of the Best" across the board.

Kingwin, Rosewill, and Thermaltake are all on the DO NOT USE list, despite having some very good PSUs.

That is Mjolnir's point.

I personally have coughed up a Tt review for a very good unit that made it onto the Recommended list.
Is it recommended, or to be avoided at all costs?

It is worth noting that this is the DO NOT USE list thread, not the Recommended thread, and Diaz does not have access to the first post.

Lastly, a bit more politeness would be appreciated, too.

Folks,

Keep in mind that the initial list of "Units to Avoid" is more than 5 years old as pointed out.
Many of the OEM brand names have made substantial in-roads for supplying quality units today.
The original list in the first post is too large to reconstruct and correct.

The list here should be your guide to quality units today:

I think, that there should be at least 3 categories:

1."BOMB with unknown explosion time":bang head - do not buy it even for integrated with mobo graphic cards, PCs 4 writing posts on overclockers.com :p

2."Good, but not expensive PSUs" - Cheap PSUs that can handle computers with single GPU (not very high Watagges). Keeping good voltages, have good components, are quiet and are letting you using your PC for many years without worrying about fireworks display  after little voltage "jumps" in mains(mains - did I good translated it:confused:)

3. Just as somebody said - "The Very Best of the Best." - for ultimate tasks - PC with multi GPU, overclocked - for high-end performance - price is not the main thing.

I think, that necessary is to separate PSUs from the first and second group. Not everyone need a "power station", but somebody need cheap, quiet PSU for "multimedia" PC.

That is My little conclusion about this:chair:. Anyway My PSU arrived yesterday and I've replaced it already...:attn: It's working for a couple of hours, but I've didn't run any game or benchmark yet.:sly: Here are some photos:

For example this PSU i would put into the second group, but XFX Pros with more power can go to the 3rd group i suppose.

Here are some tests of XFX Pro 550.

There are probably a thousand PSU on current market (including but current production and discontinued models) around the world. Maintaning a up to date list is probably not practical. It's easier to have a list of known good brand, a partial list of psu that are OK but not for heavy use, and list of brands that no one must touch even if they are free.

If you need a new power supply, it's often easier to ask in a new thread something like "I need about 800w for my rig with 2x GTX 590, what are good brand and model today?" and get a suggestion for a few psu.

*** Updated naughty PSU list ***

When I read that line, for some reason this popped in my mind:

Planning to send those naughty PSU coals next Christmas? ;)
