Got a buddy looking to do a full platform upgrade and has $100.00 (give or take $20.00) to spend on a vid card. he needs pci-e, not planning on SLI anytime soon.

I was looking at an x800 gto-2 256 for him and possibly a 6600gt if one can be had for the price. What are the suggestions?

Yep, that 6800XT has only 8 pipes and low clock speeds 325/600..

The X800gto and the 7600gt are good cards, both with 12 pipes and speeds of 400/800. I'd go with the 7600gs just because it's newer technology..

The gto 2 is mostly gone, the limited edition is entirely, and when you find it the card is more then 120.

if you wont budge from your budget then the 7600gs is the best you can get on pcie.

The x800gto is good but mail in rebates are best to avoid when ordering for other people usless you take the hit in the meantime. The noteable exeption being if your friend is willing to fork over the cash and wait himself.
