How long does this actually take?!

How long does it normally take FedEx to get a tracking number into their system? The package was picked up yesterday afternoon at around 12:00 PM Eastern Time. Shouldn't the number have been put into the system by now?

OK I have been waiting weeks to do that to someone. Too bad it had to be you dude.

But seriously, FedEx is not that great of a shipper, they just charge so much that people assume that they are buying what they pay for from them. If your wii has yet to be scanned the first time, then it is still sitting on the loading dock waiting to be picked up by FedEx (or it has been and they just did not bother to scan the whole load).

Probably by lunch time you can begin to watch your wii move through the system. If you are lucky, you may get the special joy that I get from them on occasion. Due to the way they have facilities located, my packages often go to a local airport that handles cargo where they are scanned before sending them like 40 miles in the opposite direction. Then overnight they send them back to the local distribution point (a couple of miles from the aforementioned cargo airport) before they go on a truck to get to me.

Every time this happens, I want to track down the chairman of FedEx and scream WTF at him for that one.

When you get the tracking number it is not in their system because they don't physically have the package yet. Once they pick it up from the seller then it will start its tangled journey to the database. Only the Post Office is reasonably fast at getting tracking info on to the web.

It depends on a few factors. Was it FedEx ground or Federal Express (First AM, Priority Overnight, Standard Overnight, 2-Day, Express Saver, etc). If it was Federal Express it will be in the system after the driver picks it up and downloads the info from his handheld to the FedEx servers. All Express shipments are scanned individually by the driver at pick up. If it was ground it will be either when it runs through the FedEx terminal or when the shipper uploads the info the FedEx (If they have the capability). Ground drivers do not scan anything at pick-up. They just pick-up.

I ship a LOT of fedex at work every day and they are a much better carrier than UPS. Much more customer service oriented in my opinion.

Arg. Turns out Niero used the wrong shipping type (US Airbill instead of International, or whichever ships to Canada) so they never even picked the damn thing up.

I got an email confirming that they were going to pick it up on Friday (24th of November), and he emailed me a new tracking number. This number isn't in the system yet, either. I'm thinking it might not be 'cause they may have picked it up late on the Friday or something, and they may not update their systems on the weekend. I hope that's all it is.

With a little luck, I'll be getting my Wii next week.

    GAH! Another setback!

They didn't pick it up THIS time 'cause there was no commercial waybill filled out. Niero has now done that and scheduled for another pickup. With a little luck, I'll get it early next week (famous last words).

Their fedex guy must be an ass or they have a different process than we do. Anything we ship to Canada, and most other countries, needs an Airbill (the fedex label), a commercial invoice and a NAFTA certificate of origin. If any of it is incorrect he will tell us and give us a few minutes to fix it. A problem with the CI should only take about 5 minutes to fix. Since he has to scan each package we usually have more time than this. If he dosent catch the problem then there will be delays as the package will be stuck in Customs untill we can Fax the correct info or FedEx brings it back to us.
