Browning vs Yahoo! Inc ???

I got an email today telling me that I was part of a class action lawsuit in the case of Browning vs Yahoo! Inc and several other Credit Reporting/Monitoring agencies.... They directed me to this website http://www.browningsettlement.com/index.php3 here. I mean it looks all official and everything, but to look up your information, you have to put in your date of birth and SSN That was a red flag to me right there... Basically they are stating its a class action lawsuit against Credit Reporting/Monitoring companies that falsely claimed to improve your credit and charged consumers. The benefits it says are a free credit report or free 60 day credit monitoring... sounds enticing... BUT, I am still very leary of the fact they want my SSN and DOB. The website include details on how to exclude myself from the lawsuit. Like I said, the site looks official and I can't seem to find any misleading/funny/contradicting statements or info on there. Has anyone else gotten an email about this? What do you think- spam or legit? It its legit, hell, I'll be happy to get a free credit report lol

If it's not one of the big 3 (Experian, TransUnion, or Equifax) then it's not worth even thinking about. And the government mandates you can get one free credit report a year - the reporting agencies have to give it up, you don't need a gimmick

Yeah it also included Experian in the lawsuit as well... I was pretty sure it was fake as soon as the form to enter my SSN and DOB appeared..

If you are a natural person in the United States and you entered into an agreement over the Internet with ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. or any Experian Entity to purchase any Credit Check or Credit Check Monitoring (which were formerly known as CreditCheck® Monitoring Service), Credit Manager (including Yahoo! Credit Manager), Triple Alert or Triple Advantage credit monitoring product (and/or any credit score sold on a website also selling any of the foregoing credit-monitoring products) between June 17, 1998 and December 27, 2006 and paid ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. or any Experian Entity for the credit monitoring product (and/or such a credit score) but did not later obtain complete refunds from any source of the full amount paid for the credit monitoring product (and/or credit score), you may be entitled to receive a settlement benefit.

“Experian Entity” and “Experian Entities” refer to “Experian North American, Inc. and to any company that is a subsidiary, parent, corporate affiliate, or division of Experian North America, Inc., and shall also include Credit Expert, L.L.C.”
