The long awaited HD2900XT is released and now I think is the time to make decision. I'm running on a 930D overclocked to 4.0Ghz, 2GB RAM, P5LD2 Deluxe mobo,Geforce 7600GS and a Scythe 550W PSU. I'm not sure what is the peformance fo a 4.0Ghz Pentium D so I want to ask whether a new high end video card will be bottlenecked by my proc. I'm using a 19" widescreen so my max gaming resolution is 1440x900.

The HD2900XT looks impressive on paper but I'm quite worried with the heat and power requirements. For similiar price I can get a 8800GTS 640MB but I'm sure HD2900XT will get better when drivers mature. I'm leaning towards the ATI now. Or should I get the cheaper 8800GTS 320MB because of my small LCD? Please advice. Thanks.

The 8800gts 640 seems to be better so far, and the little extra memory over the 2900 cant hurt.
If you save some money with the 320mb you can always upgrade something else with the left over dough. Im thinking your mobo is 775, if so spend your money on an e2160 or e4300. you should be happier that way.

Get the 320mb. After a lot of reading around for when I bought mine, 640mb was pretty much best for resolutions above 1600x1200, whereas the 320mb was more than enough for lower resolutions.

And yes, your cpu will seriously bottleneck anything new for a graphics card. With the 320mb version, you could be able to afford a c2d without much sweat. With both upgrades, it is certainly worth it.
