How do you apply thermal paste on your CPU?

Good mount, good temps. Bad mount, bad temps. If you getting higher temps then every one else, then a lot of times you have a bad mount.
 
I typically use Shin Etsu X23-7783D. After lapping & cleaning I rub a small amount onto BOTH surfaces. Only a very thin transparent layer - just enough to make them cloudy. After a couple years seems to work great.
 
How about that white thermal paste that comes with Evercool HSF? Is that good? (I can't find Artic Silver 5 in my country).
