Cleaning mobo

So I gutted my computer for the first time in a long time. Apparently it is long over due. After many soda spills, water leaks, dust bunny raids and so forth, my motherboard is looking rather nasty. There are patches of sticky goodness, dust in little cracks and other gross stuff you don't want on a motherboard. So how do I clean it thoroughly? Can I immerse it in isopropyl alcohol?
