8500 GT; Return it for something better?

I bought an 8500 GT at Circuit City at the "clearance" price of $119 (tax included in price).

The only games I play on my PC are Battlefield 2 and Bioshock. The card seems just fine for BF2, but Bioshock seems like it could use a little extra horsepower. There's a very, very subtle lag to the mouse movement; just enough that I can tell it's a little off, and being a little off can mean a lot when you have Thuggish Slicers running at you

I'm willing to spend more money, though I'd like/need to keep it under $200.

If you want something right around that price range

Here's an 8600gt that is faster than your card for $20 less (8600gt vs your 8500gt)

If you really want a better video card than those, I'd fork out the $250 for the new 8800gt that is coming out in a couple weeks. It will dominate any of those cards. Else just stick with those.

Hmmm...well that 8600GT for LESS than I paid is certainly appealing. Does it matter that my current 8500GT has 512MB vs that card's 256?

Buying the 8800GT is appealing, but $250...yikes.

Nope won't make much of a difference at all. When you need that extra 256 megs of memory is when you have everything turned up to max with high resolutions. Well considering the 8500gt is a pretty slow card, you definitely won't be turning everything up to max anyways.

8800GT 256MB might be around $199... If so , jump all over it, you won't regret it! :beer:

Not at ALL. Memory doesn't mean anything if your card doesn't have the bandwidth to use it. 8500GT has 12gb/s, 8600GT has 22, that's almost 2 times the bandwitdh.
Factor in the shader proc and you just have a far better card with the 8600GT.

Ouch. That's what I get for impulse buying. I'm returning it today (3 days after purchase). Hopefully they don't give me any problems

They didn't ask me why, they didn't look in the box, they just handed me my money and I was on my why. I was blown away (and grateful!) with how easy it was to return.

Now I need to save up some extra dough for that 8800!

your 8500GT is more or less equal to a 6600GT from back in the old days. Also, the 8600GT > 8500GT 512mb.

I'd seriously recommend the 8800GT though. the 512mb (highest tier one) supposedly spanks the 8800GTS 640mb.
