new rig for 1k

my friend is thinking about selling his laptop to build a desktop

here's the rundown

budget: $1000
includes: everything -- monitor, keyboard, etc.

he's thinking about getting e6550, 8800gt, 2gb crucial, 250gb 7200.11

suggestions?

depending on monitor and other components the price seems pretty high IMO. Also, what motherboard? I'd look around for a 2900Pro personally.
