I'll be mounting over and over this weekend :)
How long do I have to wait for the results to be put on the paper?

Normal IHS + Kind of lapped (NOT flat) TRUE
Normal IHS + Kind of lapped (NOT flat) TRUE + (Washer for extra pressure)
Normal IHS + Lapped TRUE
Normal IHS + Lapped TRUE + (Washer for extra pressure)
Lapped IHS + Lapped TRUE

10 min.

Should also have a thermal test before and after to match the film test

A thermal test for each set of results? Or for my old cooler?

We need the thermal comparison to the contact/pressure.

A pre lap to an post lap. I'll leave up to you what is the best of the lapping variations to do the digital imaging on. I sent you 5 test sheets I can only process 2 per person

Note room ambient temps for the test

Holy crap, that looks awsome! it would be killer if i can get the whole area next time.

Thx for allowing me the opportunity Joe. :)

Washer might kill my board so...

Normal IHS + Kind of lapped (NOT flat) TRUE
Lapped IHS + Lapped TRUE
Lapped IHS + Lapped TRUE + (Washer for extra pressure) [Maybe]

Will record for first two.

Poll - what do you guys think of the raw contact film as a diagnostic tool for contact/pressure issues?

Poll - what do you guys think of the raw contact film as a diagnostic tool for contact/pressure issues?

i think its a great idea.being able to actually SEE how your hs is making contact would be sweet.it would make mounting issues easy as pie to diagnose.
you guys should market it...i can see that becoming a part of every ocers/techies box-o-goodies.

Or they could toss a sample pad into each ICD7 tube and get people addicted to this.

I think it's really valuable. It takes the guess work out of mounting issues, pressure, and lapping results. Great tool for troubleshooting.

I know I am quite late, but I finally got around to applying this on my rig. There were a few things that changed so I can't pin down exactly how much the ICD7 helped, but I did see a 5 degree C drop in temps across the board. Maybe this is due to the fact that I cleaned up my WC loop, or maybe my original application of AS5 was too thick.

I actually found this stuff a lot easier to apply than AS5, and I imagine I got at least a few degree drop from the ICD7. This stuff is awesome, and is going on all my future builds.

JoeC, is that packet of donor and print going to be sent?

I'm sorry to keep bothering you, but I am holding off clocking my chip and RAM until I get a nice solid mount.

Thanks.

Got it!

Definitely the right stuff now, didn't have the donor paper last time :)

Thanks a whole bunch!
Time to rip up clocks on my E7200 :attn:

*I will have pictures and scans for you as well.

I'm pooped.

Will have full results up tomorrow.

*Pictures, scans, temp records of pre and post lap.

Short version is, temps are down 6C, area/pressure is interesting, and the paper can be used to correct a lap job ;) (Oh and ICD7 is the best thermal paste ever)

I'll put my money where my mouth is and say if you are lapping it would be definitely worth it to buy (maybe directly from the company, or demand free shipping from vendors). I know some places will try and charge $5 for shipping a few pieces of paper.
