easy... right.

ive already killed two graphics cards trying these 'easy' vmods. it's VERY hard. i have a pretty steady hand and have been working on my iron skillz on some old dead motherboards - and i still have killed two. im prolly gonna be adding another tally to that list here soon, as my vmodded 6800gs is starting to act REAL funny @ high clocks under 1.55vgpu :)

i know they did a lot of work with the bios's on the two ultra's they used for the 30K run too. custom timings and such. definitely a little more to then just slapping some pots on under LN2 and turning up the FSB. their 30K run? was not on a 790i and tri SLi - it was on a 780i DDR2 and normal SLi. it think only shows how professional that run really was - they didnt need DDR3 to do it.

i can't wait to see what these guys can do with some DDR3 on a 790i.

Oh dont get me wrong these guys have my respect... i wish i was them thats for sure, i guess im just jealous that they get frizee top of the line hw

Any of us may be able to do that given the equipment and time, but I think the real accomplishment is that these guys have positioned themselves in the world such that they can do this sort of thing all the time. We are mere spectators until we can break through that hobby barrier and can do this kind of thing to make a living.

I'm proud of my rig and the performance I've been able to tweak out of it, but I know I won't be going sub-zero anytime soon. It would be awesome, though, to do this kind of thing and have someone pay me or at least sponsor the materials/equipment I'd need to accomplish it.

Nod, maybe not as high as them but pretty close to say the least. I only take other people's scores with nearly identical rigs to mine with any heart.

Yeah, well, on that note, I wanna know why you are 200+ higher :p Was it clocked higher at the time?

See the thing is, as much as I know they are very very good overclockers (possibly even the "best"), and yes, I have respect for them, I dont think they are all that special. Yes, they push hardware to (sometimes) physical limits, but in the end, isnt a hobby/living supposed to be.. well.. fun? They enjoy doing what they do, we enjoy doing what we do. If you cant clock your pc as high as them, but you have the same amount of fun doing so, I would call you just as accomplished as they are.

Thats why I dont really regard Kp or FUGGER above any of you fine gentlemen (or ladies as the case may be..mmmm, an overclocking lady... now thats some cherry picked soul mates right there ;).. thankfully my mrs is into ocing lol)

Just think of it like this.. We're the beer leagues, they're the majors.

Seems like these days obtaining the best 3DMark06 score simply states you have a lot of money to burn, nothing else. $ buys you 3DMark06 scores as well as having "network" access to obtain beta hardware and cherry picked parts, not skill. Thats where I drop out of the race.

They are helping to push the envelope, making volt mods when there are none, making and shaping better blocks of copper, tweaking the smallest things in 3DMark to get those few extra points, doing fresh installs on dedicated machines and really just trying everything to squeeze every last drop of performance out of a piece of hardware.

I used to think that they just had some big money and anyone can do it, but not anymore.

Looks like eVGA is hiring hitman when they have guys with names like like K|INGP|N and FUGGER working for them :p I wonder how much eVGA pours into their pockets so that they'll use eVGA products?
